WP1: Long-term Pilot Testing

  • Long-term testing of CCL in 1 MWth scale with hard coal and lignite fuel
  • Optimisation of operating conditions
  • Collection of data for model validation and scale-up
  • Create a basis for further improvements of process and reactor design

WP2: Development and Validation of Scale-up Tools

  • Development and validation of steady state process models for the closure of mass and energy balances and the prediction of overall plant performance
  • Development and validation of 3D unit operation models for scaling-up CCL
  • Application of validated process models for the performance improvement
  • Conceptual design for an improved CCL plant

WP3: Scale-up and Engineering for a 20 MWth CCL Pilot Plant

  • Definition of CCL process configuration for the 20 MWth pilot plant, based on the host facility 600 MWe coal fired power plant Emile Huchet (EON)
  • Design and engineering of the components of the 20 MWth pilot plant
  • Detailed plan for operation and logistics
  • HSE and technical risk assessment for the CCL pilot

WP4: Integration of CCL into a Full-scale Hard Coal Power Plant

  • Evaluation of the process implementation in full-scale hard coal power plant
  • Techno-economic analysis, identification of cost of electricity (CoE) and cost of CO2 avoided to evaluate CCL technology compared to other CCS solutions
  • Assessment of the environmental impact of CCL systems by conducting a life cycle analysis (LCA)

WP5: Integration of CCL into a Full-Scale Lignite Power Plant

  • Evaluation of the process implementation in full-scale lignite power plant
  • Techno-economic analysis, identification of cost of electricity (CoE) and cost of CO2 avoided to evaluate CCL technology compared to other CCS solutions
  • Assessment of the environmental impact of CCL system by conducting a life cycle analysis (LCA)

WP6: Integration of CCL into Full-Scale Industrial Plants

  • Evaluation of the process regarding full-scale implementation to cement and steel production plants
  • Techno-economic analysis, identification of production cost and cost of CO2 avoided to evaluate CCL technology compared to other CCS solutions
  • Assess the environmental impact of CCL system by conducting a life cycle analysis (LCA)

WP7: Project Management

  • To constitute an interface to the European Commission (EC), providing technical and administrative progress reports to the EC according to the specified requirements.
  • To control, manage and monitor the administrative, financial and legal tasks of the project.

WP8: Dissemination and exploitation of project results

  • To achieve the best possible project recognition over a broad audience by disseminating the scientific results, the targets and their social and technological impact
  • To exploit the project results and maximise the innovation through Technical Implementation Plan and other exploitation activities

WP9: Technical Coordination

  • Coordinationg and monitoring the execution of the project according to the project plan
  • Ensuring the required project integration amongst tasks and goals
