Meet SCARLET at the GHGT-13

The GHGT conference series is the main conference series globally on greenhouse gas mitigation technologies, in particular CCS. In 2016, the GHGT-13 conference will take place on November 14-18 in Lausanne, Switzerland. SCARLET will the following oral presentation and poster:
Long-term carbonate looping testing in a 1 MWth pilot plant with hard coal and lignite” (Oral session 4G by Martin Helbig*, Jochen Hilz, Martin Haaf, Alexander Daikeler, Jochen Stroehle, Bernd Epple, Energy Science and Technology, TU Darmstadt, Germany )
“Process modelling of the calcium looping process and validation against 1 MWth pilot testing” (Poster no 17 by Martin Haaf*, Alexander Stroh, Jochen Hilz, Martin Helbig, Jochen Ströhle, Bernd Epple, Energy Science and Technology, TU Darmstadt, Germany)

SAVE THE DATE ! – Second public SCARLET workshop!

The  second public SCARLET workshop will take place on 23rd March 2017 at TU Darmstadt, Germany. The workshop will address the following topics:

  • Experimental results from a 1 MWth pilot plant with more than 1,200 hours stable operation
  • Scale-up and engineering of a 20 MWth pilot plant
  • CCL integration in full-scale power (lignite, hard coal) and industrial plants (cement, steel)
    • Thermodynamic evaluation
    • Economic evaluation
    • Environmental evaluation

Participants of the workshop will have the possibility to visit the 1 MWth pilot plant!

Newsletter Issue 3, April 2016

The second SCARLET newsletter has been released and distributed to interested stakeholders of CCL. The newsletter can also be downloaded at the website. Further newsletters will be realeased every 6 months presenting the recent project developments. Interested parties can sign the newsletter with an email to info@project-scarlet.eu.

1st Public SCARLET Workshop

The 1st Public SCARLET Workshop presented the results of the first phase of the project focusing on the long-term pilot testing of the Calcium Carbonate Looping (CCL) process and the development and validation of scale-up tools:  process and 3D-CFD models. Also the possibility of a site visit of the 1 MWth CCL pilot plant was given.

The participants were experts from the SCARLET consortium, other research insitutes and universities and industrial representatives – about 40 people in all.

INVITATION – 1st Public SCARLET Workshop

We are pleased to invite you to the 1st Public Workshop organized in the context of the SCARLET research project. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, 20 April 2016, between 09:00 and 17:00 CEST at the premises of the Institute for Energy Systems and Technology (EST) at Technische Universität Darmstadt (Otto-Berndt-Str. 2, 64287 Darmstadt, Germany).

The SCARLET project acquires reliable information and tools for the scale-up of the Calcium Carbonate Looping (CCL) process and pre-engineering of a 20 MWth CCL plant by continuous self-sustaining pilot plant operation. The workshop will focus on experimental results from a 1 MWth pilot plant with more than 400 hours stable operation using different fuels as well as development and validation of CFD & process models. Furthermore, a concept of an up-scaled 20 MWth pilot plant and the integration of CCL into full-scale power, cement, and steel plants will be addressed. Participants of the workshop will have the possibility to visit the 1 MWth pilot plant!

Please have a look at the workshop programme and feel free to contact us in case of any question. For more information about SCARLET project visit www.project-scarlet.eu.

The attendance is free-of-charge. For the practical arrangements, please register for the workshop prior to Friday, 8 April 2016 by sending an email with your contact details to info@project-scarlet.eu.

Kind regards,
The SCARLET consortium

SCARLET mid-term review Meeting

The mid-term review meeting was held in Darmstadt (Germany) at Technische Universität Darmstadt, 19th January 2016, and was hosted by the Institute for Energy Systems and Technology (EST). The work and results of the first phase (18 months)  were presented . The overall progress pleased the reviewers.

Fourth Project Meeting November 2015

The progress meeting was held in Athens (Greece) ans was hosted by the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), 5th November 2015. The primary objectives for this meeting were to review the current status of the project, especially the first test campaign of the 1 MWth carbonate looping pilot plant with hard coal, the preparation of the second test campaign using lignite and the progress of simulation model development.
